Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on
January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was the daughter of Avie
Lee Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton was a housewife and
Parton is a farmer of the tobacco. She was featured on Knoxville TV at 12 years
old. At 13 she had a recording contract with an obscure label, and singing at
the Grand Ole Opry. She graduated high school in 1964 and moved to Nashville to
begin her country-singing journey. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving businessman,
fell in love with her, and they were married on May 30th the 30th of May, 1966.
Her singing in 1967 caught the attention of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to be
a part of his program, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She stayed on the show
for seven years, her duets became famous, and she was part of Porter Wagoner's
band at the Grand Ole Opry. She also sold records and toured. When her smash
hit "Joshua" was ranked #1 in the year 1970, her fame was a lot more
popular than his, and she went out on her own while still recording duets
alongside his. In 1974, she walked away from her husband to pursue a solo
artist. Dolly was a massive success as a singer/songwriter. Dolly received many
Country Music Association awards (1968-70 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and 1976). This
petite (5'0") beauty was a natural at television in the late 1970s, and
she began appearing regularly on television specials and talk programs before
she got her own, Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best
Female Country Vocal Performance for her track "Here You Go Again."
Dolly made her film debut in the film 9 to 5 in 1980. The film was nominated
for an Oscar for the title song along with Grammy awards 2/3: Best Country Song
and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Dolly gained more attention for
performing in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) as well as in
Rhinestone (1984) with the track "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly
Parton Enterprises is her media empire that is worth $100 million. In 1986, she
launched Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park in Pigeon Forge. This was to
honor her Smoky Mountain childhood. She appeared in the TV show Dolly (1987
television series) as herself. In 1988, she received another Grammy: Best
Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals for "Trio".
